4/27/2021 Easter time - share in joy!Easter joy and suffering as well....Welcome back to our little blog walking with Mary in the Teresian way of "littleness." Everyone who "humbles himself, shall be exalted" from Scripture... The rest of this blog is by our guest poster... "I had a health crisis in early April with a bad reaction to some food. Figuring it out this was difficult. Immediately I cut out the peanut butter and wheat - but I wasn't sure what else. It all started on Holy Thursday when I woke up with like it felt like an earache or throat thing. I thought it was an ear infection. Got some ear candles, etc. Usually those will take it away, but not this time. Then after Easter Sunday, I had the bad allergic reaction - so, despite the peace then suffering of the Passion during Easter week! By the time the next weekend came, I was severely in shock - and eating very carefully - resulted to a vegetarian diet for a bit. I found a functional medicine doctor to go to and found out peanuts was high on the list of "no eat". I found some foods that I could eat again - thankfully. I did go off wheat (no gluten mostly), no dairy - had no idea milk could be a problem - I love cheese! No more pizza for me! Anyway, so changing my diet was drastically different. Then got hit with some virus going around (no I don't think it was THAT one) - just something and I got well gradually - it has been a month long time of suffering with Jesus during Easter. How does one find joy in this? I asked myself. But somehow through the midst of suffering, I have found peace in Jesus and His Cross! Mary also has guided my life. I had been interested in joining the Carmelite Third order before I got sick. I almost gave up on the whole idea. But then I thought, perhaps this was a test to see if I would or could persevere. No, I will not give up. I figured if I am ill; Jesus will understand my desires to do the Little Office of Mary and forgive me if I am unable. This may be a test to see how much I can persevere. I don't know. I just almost gave it all up. I almost threw it away. I cannot rely on myself alone - time to give God my wholeself and not trust myself at all. I must become little like St. Therese. She says that "God loves our little weaknesses and our sufferings..." And according to a sermon at Mass recently - Jesus wants our sins even - as long as we are not wanting to sin again - He wants all of our selves - our full weak creature as we are - Wow! I believe that was the sermon from Divine Mercy Sunday. I cannot give up as a Catholic and I will take up this Cross - look at what Our Lady at the Foot of the Cross did - wow, I can't even imagine - a mother watching Her Son die on the cross - Our Lady of Sorrows pray for us!" Now back to regular poster: So, our sorrows can turn into Joy of Easter. We can give God our sorrows and say - "Yes, I will do this for you." Take time also to meditate each day - turn to God in prayer of a child and talk to Him. Try it for 15 minutes to start out with and increase to 30 minutes. God is waiting for us - let's go to Him in Prayer and thank Jesus for this Easter joy of suffering with Him! Amen. If you want to listen to an video/audio of Our Lady of Sorrows by Fr. Franks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NUNnu0jmZo Post by Guest Poster Rose Hill in quotes. 3/28/2021 Holy Week with Our LadyHoly Week - walking with MaryI thought it is time to write about Holy Week; some of you may not know the order things happened. First of all, of course, we have Palm Sunday. The crowd sees Christ going on a mule through the streets in a procession and they even Hail him as King! Then, a few days later they are crying, "Crucify Him, Crucify Him!" I guess they did not understand the reason Christ really came to us. There would be naysayers or as Dan Lok says "haters". In my own life, I have been abandoned by friends, had people be 'haters' as they were jealous of what I do and keep on doing - hey, making money is a way to hate someone? Really? I don't make much money - but maybe people are just jealous? Anyway, does not matter why the "haters" hate. They are most likely suffering from narcissism. So, how do you define narcissism? Mostly they are self-centered, want attention, make a big scene over things, etc. Read more here: www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/a28690119/what-is-a-narcissist/ Anyway, so back to Holy week - how can we walk this week with Our Lady? Mary our Mother? The Blessed Virgin Mary probably was there or nearby during the Last Supper - I cannot imagine Our Lord not inviting her or at least offering for her to help serve the others coming. Mary has always been kind of in the shadows of Christ when he enters his public life (at least in the Bible). However, Our Lord was making priests during the Last Supper, so I imagine Mary being a type of servant and being there only as a helper. After all, the Last Supper was the First Mass - Christ gave his apostles the power to offer the sacrifice of the Mass; though they may have understood better after His Resurrection. We do not know where Mary was at during the Agony in the Garden. Jesus asked his disciples to watch and wait and they fell asleep! Jesus asked for the cup to pass from Him. However, to do God's will. Perhaps, Our Lady was praying somewhere in her home and this helped Jesus through this time of the Agony in the Garden. I always see Mary as a very prayerful Mother and person in the Gospels. Then, Judas comes and betrays Jesus, then Jesus is brought before Pilot. In the movie, "Passion of Jesus Christ" - Mel Gibson kind of gives a glimpse of what was going on with Our Lady during the time of the Crucifixion. John most likely alerted Mary (or perhaps another person) about Jesus being brought before Pilot. So, this is probably when Mary heard about it, but did not know exactly how to find Jesus. So, now she begins her search of Jesus (again!) Mary may have thought about the time Jesus was lost in the Temple! Now, Mary searches for Christ as an adult. In the meantime, Jesus is scourged and crowned with Thorns. Mary did not find Jesus at these times; but I am sure her heart was already agonizing at this time. Then Jesus was given his Cross to carry. Now, Our Lady meets Jesus pretty quickly on His Way of the Cross. Can you imagine this time? Mary's next sword of Sorrow is thrust into her heart. She sees her son with the Cross, Crown of Thorns, his flesh coming out of his wounds of scourging! Then Mary sees him fall three times as well! Mary follows Jesus to the Golgotha Hill. Then at the Crucifixion, Jesus gives us Mary as our Mother, then he dies. Mary's heart is pierced again. As Jesus is taken down - the "Pieta" - Mary's heart is pierced again. Also, St. Longinus thrusts the sword into Jesus side and His Heart - the water and blood come forth as signifying graces for us. And one more time as they bury Jesus - Mary's last sorrow of burying her son in the tomb. This is our walk with Mary this week. Perhaps, pause and think of Our Lady's final sorrows during this week of Holy Week. Go back and read our fuller article about Our Lady of Sorrows and having a home altar for Mary! We encourage you to keep company with Mary this week and Jesus during this Way of the Cross. May this Holy week bring you joy and peace on Easter Sunday! 3/26/2021 A home altar for Our Lady of SorrowsThe Seven Sorrows Devotion"You can create a simple Altar in your home as you comfort Mother Mary. The main images are always the Virgin of Sorrows and Christ. The surrounding elements represent the suffering felt by the Virgin Mary when she finds out that her son has been condemned to death. The most common elements and their meaning include these: Altar cloths and white flowers: Mary’s purity Purple cloak: pain and penitence Bitter oranges: the Virgin’s sorrow. These oranges are painted gold in order to recall the joy of the resurrection. Fresh chamomile: its colors represent humility (green) and beauty in body and soul (yellow). Sprouting wheat: represents Christ as Eucharistic bread Flavored water: the Virgin’s sweet tears." From Maria Cecila - Catholic Fit Mama Newsletter So, today is Our Lady of Sorrows Feast day - it lands the last Friday of Lent before Good Friday. What are the Seven Sorrows of Mary? They are the following: 1. Simeon's Prophecy. This happened when Mary went to the Temple to present herself to be "purified" (even though she is holiest person alive and did not need this purification) and presented baby Jesus in the Temple as well. Simeon came up after this and made the prophecy; "And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;" [Luke 2:34] 2. Flight into Egypt: This happened after the birth of Jesus and Temple above. Mary and Joseph had been visited by the Three Wise men or Three Kings. So, this passage refers to "they" as being the Three Kings: "And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him." [Matthew 2:13] 3. Jesus Lost: Mary and Joseph lose Jesus! Can you imagine how they must have felt? "Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it ... After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers" (Lk 2:41-47). (This passage from this site: http://www.vatican.va/special/rosary/documents/popup/popup05_gau_en.html 4. The Meeting of Mary and Jesus on the Way to Calvary 5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus 6. The Piercing of the Side of Jesus, and His Descent from the Cross "Pieta" 7. The Burial of Jesus. So, those are the full seven Sorrows of Mary. Novena in Honor of Saint Gabriel the Archangel. March 15 - 23 . St. Gabriel the Archangel, I venerate thee as the “Angel of the Incarnation,” because God has specially appointed thee to bear the messages concerning the God-Man to Daniel, Zechariah, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Give me a very tender and devoted love for the Incarnate Word and His Blessed Mother, more like thy own. . I venerate thee also as the “Strength from God”, because thou art the giver of God’s strength, consoler and comforter chosen to strengthen God’s faithful and teach them important truths. I ask for the grace of a special power of the will to strive for holiness of life. Steady my resolutions; renew my courage; comfort and console me in the problems, trials and sufferings of daily living, as thou didst console our Savior in His agony and Mary in her sorrows and Joseph in his trials. I put my confidence in thee. . Saint Gabriel, I ask thee especially for this favor . your request . Through thy earnest love for the Son of God made man and for His Blessed Mother, I beg of thee, intercede for me that my request may be granted, it it be God’s holy will. . Pray for us, Saint Gabriel the Archangel. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen. 3/13/2021 Holy Face and CarmelitesDevotion to Holy Face and Third Orders...Welcome to Little Way of Mary blog. Just in case you do not know the purpose of this blog; Our main intention is to bring to you information that is based in Tradition of the Catholic Church. So, our focus is on the Tridentine Latin Rite of the Mass and devotions that are based in tradition. We may currently post current events as well.
This week's devotion information - The Holy Face of Jesus. This devotion has been around since the time of Christ; since Our Lord wiped his face on the cloth of St. Veronica. Also, the Shroud of Tourin has Jesus' face on it as well. Here's some more info below: Almost one hundred and eighty years ago, Our Lord appeared to a humble cloistered sister of the Carmelite community of Tours, France, Sister Marie St. Peter. This convent was specifically chosen by God to spread devotion to the Holy Face since the Reverend Mother had made a special vow promising God that for a whole year two of the religious in her community would offer their Communions for the special intention that the designs of the Sacred Heart should be accomplished. Through Sr. Marie St. Peter, the world would one day come to know that the designs of the Sacred Heart were to be accomplished through “The Work of Reparation.” Source: https://www.ourladyofgoodsuccess.com/blogs/news/devotion-to-the-holy-face-a-definitive-weapon-to-combat-the-ills-of-modern-society?mc_cid=dff2693736 Sr. Marie St. Peter - A French Carmelite What is meant by “The Work of Reparation”?On August 26, 1843, a terrible storm raged outside of Sr. Marie St. Peter’s monastery. She could not help but think that God was showing His anger for the sins of the world. She asked God if she was imagining this feeling or that in fact, she was feeling His wrath. She began to pray asking for God’s mercy. In her prayer, she offered Our Lord Jesus Christ to the Heavenly Father in expiation for her sins and the needs of the Church -reminding Him of His sacrifice for us. Heaven answered her question in this way. Our Lord spoke to her interiorly: “My Name is everywhere blasphemed! There are even children who blaspheme!” Our Lord said, as well, that only Reparation could disarm the Justice of God because the guilt of men had provoked His anger. Sr. Marie St. Peter writes in her autobiography about the remedy for blasphemy, “The Golden Arrow”: “Our Lord made me visualize the act of blasphemy as a poisoned arrow continually wounding His Divine Heart. After that He revealed to me that He wanted to give me a ‘Golden Arrow’ which would have the power of wounding Him delightfully, and which would also heal those other wounds inflicted by the malice of sinners. The following is the formula of the ‘Golden Arrow’ which is an Act of Praise that our Lord Himself dictated to me, notwithstanding my unworthiness, for the reparation of blasphemy against His Holy Name.” The Golden Arrow Prayer (Prayer to be recited before the Blessed Sacrament or an image of the Holy Face) May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and ineffable Name of God be forever praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on Earth, and under the Earth by all the creatures of God and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen. Over the course of several years Our Lord would speak to Sr. Marie and educate her on the many ways He has been offended. Blasphemy was mentioned first, however, the profanation of Sundays and feast days was next on the list. This grieved Him very much! Reparation was therefore needed for all types of the attacks against the Catholic Faith and the Holy Church, since these also constitute a form of blasphemy.” It appears Heaven was asking through this “Work of Reparation” restitution for heretical attacks against the Church which are so numerous and vicious in these times. (Same source as above). Now in our own words: We hope you will pray this prayer against blasphemy everyday if you can remember! Now, I have been looking into Third Orders. There are quite a few of them; but unfortunately most of the ones attached to the Novus Ordo Mass are not going to be any that one could join without comprising your faith. So, I decided to look into third orders of other style - traditional rite related. Also, remember this is my opinion. If you are already a member of a third order that is tied to a Novus Ordo and you are professed already as a member - then I am sure you can still go to a Latin Mass if so desired, etc. However, when one wants to start out in Novus Ordo it would be difficult most likely to be accepted into such a group if you are Traditional. Now, I found out that the Society of St. Pius X has a few third orders. One is their main Third Order that is tied to helping pray for priest of the society, etc. You may read here at this link if you are wanting to learn more: https://sspx.org/en/sspx-third-order-explanation There is also a Third order of St. Francis that is traditional: http://archives.sspx.org/third_orders/tosf/tosf_flyer.pdf Then there is also Dominican - however, I don't find a particular website, but if anyone is interested I can get information to you. There is also a Third Order Traditional Carmelite as well. Right now I am discerning whether to join a Third Order and which one - please say a prayer for your author. Thank you so much. God Bless. 2/25/2021 Five Wounds of Jesus DevotionLearn more about the Five WoundsCall it inspiration or whatever, but I am listening to that little voice inside - so maybe my Angel is asking me to share this devotion. I am placing myself inside the Five Wounds each night. So, what are the Five Wounds of Jesus? First of all, Jesus was nailed to the cross, so his hands were nailed - left and right - and then his feet were nailed to the cross - left and right foot (probably over each other). Then, there's the wound on Jesus side. This wound was done after Jesus' death. St. Longinus Spear or Lance made the wound of Jesus' side. This was done because Jesus was already dead and his bones were not to broken - to fulfill the prophecy of scripture as well "no bones were to be broken." So, The soldier Longinus struck the side of Christ with the spear/lance and blood and water flowed out of his side! Just meditate on that for a minute! To read more about the lance you can go here: https://ucatholic.com/blog/the-holy-lance-a-lesser-known-relic-of-jesus-christ/ Where is the lance now? Interesting read: https://aleteia.org/2020/01/16/where-is-the-true-holy-lance-which-pierced-the-side-of-christ/ Quoting another article on the Internet about why we should have this devotion to the Holy Wounds: The reason for this devotion was well expressed at a later period in the memorial of the Polish bishops to Clement XIII: “Moreover, the Five Wounds of Christ are honored by a Mass and an Office, and on account of these wounds we venerate also the feet, hands and side of the most loving Redeemer, these parts of Our Lord’s most holy body being held more worthy of a special cult than the others, precisely because they suffered special pains for our salvation, and because they are decorated with these wounds as with an illustrious mark of love. Therefore, with living faith they cannot be looked upon without a special feeling of religion and devotion” (Nilles, “De rat. fest. SS. Cord. Jesu et Mariae”, I, 126). https://societyofignatians.com/who-we-are/ignatian-hallmarks/devotion-five-wounds-christ/history-five-wounds-devotion/ Continuing the above article.... “The Dominican Rosary also helped to promote devotion to the Sacred Wounds, for while the fifty small beads refer to Mary, the five large beads and the corresponding Pater Nosters are intended to honour the Five Wounds of Christ (Beissel, “Verehrung Marias”, I, 525). Again, in some places it was customary to ring a bell at noon on Fridays, to remind the faithful to recite five Paters and Aves in honour of the Holy Wounds. A corona, or rosary, of the Five Wounds was approved by the Holy See on 11 August, 1823, and again in 1851. It consists of five divisions, each composed of five Glories in honour of Christ’s Wounds and one Ave in commemoration of the Sorrowful Mother. The blessing of the beads is reserved to the Passionists. FEAST DAY “The earliest evidence of a feast in honour of the Wounds of Christ comes from the monastery of Fritzlar, Thuringia, where in the fourteenth century a feast was kept on the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi. .... The Feast of the Five Wounds, celebrated since the Middle Ages at Evora and elsewhere in Portugal on 6 February (at Lisbon on the Friday after Ash-Wednesday) is of historical interest. It commemorates the founding of the Portuguese kingdom in 1139, when, before the battle on the plains of Ourique, Christ appeared to Alfonso Henriquez, promising victory over the Moors and commanding him to insert into the coat of arms of the new kingdom the emblem of the Five Wounds (“Propr. Portugalliae” in Weiss, “Weltgeschichte”, III, 251). This feast is celebrated today in all Portuguese-speaking countries. The Proprium of Venice of 1766, which contains perhaps the earliest series of movable feasts in honour of Christ’s Passion, has the Feast of the Five Wounds on the second Sunday in March; it was granted in 1809 to Leghorn for the Friday after Ash-Wednesday, on which day it is still kept in many dioceses of Tuscany, and elsewhere (Mexico). Since 1831, when the feasts in honour of the Passion were adopted at Rome by the Passionists and the city, this feast was assigned to the Friday after the third Sunday in Lent. The Office is one of those bequeathed to us by the Middle Ages. As this feast is not celebrated in the entire Church the Office and Mass are placed in the appendix of the Breviary and the Missal." societyofignatians.com/who-we-are/ignatian-hallmarks/devotion-five-wounds-christ/history-five-wounds-devotion/ So, I believe that the first Friday after Ash Wednesday maybe when the feast day is in the Latin Tridentine calendar. Since this has already passed, you may want to honor the Five Wounds on the second Sunday in March as another idea. Another place to read more: https://www.mensajerosdivinos.org/en/ejercicios-espirituales/devotional-five-sacred-wounds-jesus So, what are prayers that one can recite in honor of the Five Wounds? Here is one set of prayers below: THE LITTLE CHAPLET OF THE FIVE WOUNDS OF JESUS CRUCIFIED by St. Alphonsus Liguori I. O my Lord Jesus Christ, I adore the wound in Thy left foot. I thank Thee for having suffered it for me with so much sorrow and with so much love. I compassionate Thy pain, and that of Thine afflicted Mother. And, by the merit of this sacred wound, I pray Thee to grant me the pardon of my sins, of which I repent with all my heart, because they have offended Thine infinite goodness. O sorrowing Mary, pray to Jesus for me. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory, etc. By all the wounds which Thou didst bear With so much love and so much pain, Oh, let a sinner's prayer Thy mercy, Lord, obtain! II. O my Lord Jesus Christ, I adore the wound in Thy right foot. I thank Thee for having suffered it for me with so much sorrow and with so much love. I compassionate Thy pain, and that of Thine afflicted Mother. O sorrowing Mary, pray to Jesus for me. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory, etc. By all the wounds which Thou didst bear With so much love and so much pain, Oh, let a sinner's prayer Thy mercy, Lord, obtain! III. O my Lord Jesus Christ, I adore the wound in Thy left hand. I thank Thee for having suffered it for me with so much sorrow and with so much love. I compassionate Thy pain, and that of Thine afflicted Mother. And, by the merit of this sacred wound, I pray Thee to deliver me from Hell, which I have so often deserved, where I could never love Thee more. O sorrowing Mary, pray to Jesus for me. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory, etc. By all the wounds which Thou didst bear With so much love and so much pain, Oh, let a sinner's prayer Thy mercy, Lord, obtain! IV. O my Lord Jesus Christ, I adore the wound in Thy right hand. I thank Thee for having suffered it for me with so much sorrow and with so much love. I compassionate Thy pain, and that of Thy most afflicted Mother. And, by the merit of this sacred wound, I pray Thee to give me the glory of Paradise, where I shall love Thee perfectly, and with all my strength. O sorrowing Mary, pray to Jesus for me. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory, etc. By all the wounds which Thou didst bear With so much love and so much pain, Oh, let a sinner's prayer Thy mercy, Lord, obtain! V. O my Lord Jesus Christ, I adore the wound in Thy side. I thank Thee for having willed, even after Thy death, to suffer this additional injury, without pain indeed, yet with consummate love. I compassionate Thine afflicted Mother, who alone felt all its pain. And, by the merit of this sacred wound, I pray Thee to bestow upon me the gift of holy love for Thee, that so I may ever love Thee in this life, and in the other, face to face, for all eternity, in Paradise. O sorrowing Mary, pray to Jesus for me. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory, etc. By all the wounds which Thou didst bear With so much love and so much pain, Oh, let a sinner's prayer Thy mercy, Lord, obtain! I feel that if I do not tell you - it would be a sin of omission. But, let me back up a little. Some of you are new to my blog and I want to do a little introduction. I am a mother, author, doula, veil maker! I just recently took the Oath Against Modernism! You might think - why do that? Well, to fight for the truth and also I am joining a network - Christ the King Network and that is one of the requirements to join! I also recently left Fakebook as I call it now - persecuted beyond belief over there. So, I was considering leaving before that and hubby had already left; I guess that was the sign I needed - goodbye! Let the good times roll elsewhere. I started this blog recently, so I am going to be aiming at just continuing with the blog! So, I need to tell the truth about this covid stuff - I am listening right now to a new place where you can find the truth - it is called UGETUBE - www.ugetube.com - Go to front page and listen to the motto of the place. So, there are some videos up that are saying the COVID - TEST is no good. In fact some are claiming that the test is also a type of vaccination - at least they are marking you with some cosmic dust particles - like nanoprobes! Yeah, real sci-fy happening right now. I don't have to watch Stargate-SG1 anymore! Like one doctor says in this video (see link here for full video) - why swab up your nose through your brain barrier - a good swab in the mouth is all they need for a test - they are not doing just a test! They are marking you with dust! I urgently suggest anyone who had not been tested to NOT get tested. If you have been tested, take measures to boost your immune system and stop getting tested. Now, the real vaccine is really bad as well. So, here's another thing more about how the actual test works and why people should refuse it: https://ugetube.com/watch/dr-sherri-tenpenny-explains-how-the-depopulation-covid-vaccines-will-start-working-in-3-6-months_wBaRFnZ2jFkVht6.html Anyway, I need to cover this information and get the word out to as many people possible. So, what do you do? If you are working for someone who insists on you getting tested or vaccinated, etc.? Quit your job and work for yourself. That is my suggestion! If you cannot do that, then give your employer information about the tests and see if he is willing to not let you be tested. I am sure there is some way around this if you really want to continue working. Or you can just move to Mexico! The Dollar Vigilante recommends that. https://dollarvigilante.com/ Anyway, you do not have to believe anything here that I have posted. I ask that you do not unsubscribe just because you didn't like my post. Need more facts? Go to Ugetube - signup - browse through all the videos! Now, that you all think I am a crazy woman - good - let's see how many of you will wake up and know that the Great Reset is mind control, population control, etc. Do not forget to pray your Rosary! By the way, I am not saying don't take precautions - you do what you want. But for me, I ain't wearing a mask to cover my nose because it doesn't do that much good from my reading up on it. I am just suggesting take the time to do your own research, etc. It is better that you inform yourself and do what you feel is best for your family!! 2/4/2021 Wandering Thoughts of Pre-Lent
In the Wake of Christmas, Mary's Fiat and Joseph's Yes!This morning I was inspired by our priest's sermon at Mass. He talked today about Mary's Fiat and how she was most willing to do "God's will" no matter what. Even if she had to suffer; she was still willing to do God's Will to be the Mother of God our Savior born on Christmas Day. Also, Saint Joseph gave his "yes" as well to be our "spiritual" father and father of baby Jesus. I am reading a book right now titled: "Consecration to St. Joseph" by Donald Calloway. And I think I will be quoting some short passages from this wonderful book for some of my continuing points. Mary's Fiat was also Joseph's yes! Many of us think of St. Joseph as an old man and not young. However, in this book that I am reading - Fulton Sheen is quoted saying: "Joseph was probably a young man strong, virile, athletic, handsome, chaste and disciplined." pg. 116 (Consecration to St. Joseph) Fulton Sheen applies that St. Joseph is not an "old man" like Mary is not an "old maid" because this was not God's design or will. St. Joseph needed strength to take the Holy Family and fly into Egypt for instance. If he had been an old man of fifty or more he most likely would not have had this strength! Now, let's turn to St. Joseph's Yes to being the father of Jesus. It is tradition that St. Joseph was a perpetual virgin as well! "The Virgin Mary had been wed to the virginal bridegroom (Joseph). Yes she - who married Joseph out of obedience to her elders - has no fears for her virginity under Joseph's protection. Having placed her trust in God, she delegated to a man the safe guarding of the greatest treasure. She - who had dedicated the flower of virginity to God earlier in a solemn ceremony - had not doubt that she would have a virginal spouse." pg. 133 (Consecration to St. Joseph). In fact the ring that was used at St. Joseph and Mary's wedding called the "Santo Anello" is still found today in the Cathedral of San Lorenzo in Perugia, Italy - imagine that! So, now let's turn to the time of Jesus' birth.... This is a quote from the book but also Bible passage Matthew1:18-24: "Now at the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. when his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to send her away quietly. But as he considered this, behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." All of this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: "Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (which means God with us). When Joseph woke from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife." pg. 142 (Consecration to St. Joseph) The book goes on to explain 3 different theories of how Joseph may have experienced "Suspicious theory"; "Stupefaction Theory"; and The Reverence Theory" (pg. 142-143 from the book above). I want to talk about the last one - some theologians and saints think that St. Joseph had no doubts about Mary's purity or pregnancy - he knew that this was from God. He doubts his worthiness to be the father of Jesus. He considers himself unworthy to take on this role! Wow, I honestly think this one makes the most sense. I can see how St. Joseph would consider himself unworthy. There are times when I feel so unworthy of God's love and his graces He gives me at Holy Communion. I can relate the most to this theory. I believe Joseph felt unworthy to be The Father of Jesus. However, as the passage of the Bible says - Joseph woke from his sleep and decided to give God his "Yes!" So, St. Joseph also had to decide whether to accept this task of being the Father of Jesus! Here's one more quote that kind of covers this point: St. Romanus wrote this poem: Then Joseph, who knew the Virgin stopped, stunned by her glory, and, gazing on the brilliance of her form, said: "O Shining one, I see that a flame and hot coals encircle you. It frightens me, Mary. Protect me, do not consume me! Your spotless womb has suddenly become a fiery furnace.' Let it not melt me, I beg you. Spare me. Do you wish me, like Moses o fold, to take off my shoes, that I may draw nigh and listen to you, and taught by you say; Hail, Bride unbridled!" pg. 148 (Consecration to St. Joseph) So, Mary gave her "Fiat" at the Annunciation and St. Joseph gave his "Yes" sometime after he found out about Mary's pregnancy. They both are great virginial spouses united with the Love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus beating in Mary's womb! Jesus is our "desire of ever lasting hills" (quote from Litany to the Sacred Heart). Will you give Jesus your heart and love this Christmas and give him your "yes" to whatever he wills for you? Categories: Christmas, Joseph, Mary. |
